Public Holidays

Public Holidays

The Holidays Act was amended in January 2014 to enable Waitangi and ANZAC public holidays to be Mondayised if they fall on a weekend day that an employee would not otherwise have worked.

For employees who would not otherwise work on that Saturday or Sunday, the public holiday must be treated as falling on the following Monday.

For employees who would otherwise work on that Saturday or Sunday, the public holiday must be treated as falling on that day.

Employees get a paid day off on a public holiday if it’s one of their normal work days. If they work on a public holiday they get paid time and half and an alternative day off.
